[THN097] Das Kraftfuttermischwerk - Blüte Seines Lebens
(Moving Ambient Downbeats)

Now, in this mid-summer of 2007, Das Kraftfuttermischwerk
returns with a
soothing, melodic downtempo EP titled
"Blüte seines Lebens" - a perfect
audio complement to warm,
placid days. Like a carefree boat trip down a
meandering,
gently flowing waterway on a balmy summer day that ends in

the cool shade of a secluded tree-lined beach, this
easy-listening
four-tracker takes the listener on a tranquil,
nostalgic sound journey
that includes beautiful synths,
pensive melodies, delicate beats, and
minimal grooves.

[APL047] Twile - Traum-a
(Cinematic Dub Electronica)

The album title was selected for its dual meaning -
“Traum” is the
German word for “dream” while
“trauma” refers to emotional injury or
suffering as
a result of experiencing an extremely stressful situation

or physical injury. The sounds are cinematic, designed to
be listened to
in seclusion, and the album as a whole is a
manifestation of Twile’s
belief that “what is contained in
sadness holds the greatest potential
for joy.”
So Twile, as if assuming the role of a therapist,
summons the
misplaced world of dreams, childhood,
and forest to offer a “sonorous cure.”

Hiroya Kurata's Arts

Hiroya Kurata was born in Osaka Japan, and grew upin Tokyo and Chicago.
His artwork is inspired by various things including thegreek myths, baseball cards, and Bikuri-Man stickers. He is a member of a Japanese manga group, Mashcomix.
He is currently living and working in Brooklyn, NYC.

I met Hiro 2 years ago, during the summer 2005 at the opening of the Dolce Vita # 2 organised by Carla Communication at Espace Beaurepaire in Paris. It was a big show with different artists as painter, sculptor, designer, couturier, musicians & performers, video & fashion alsoHiro introduced some sculpturs and canvas at this show. To be honest, I already admire his talent and his unique way of drawing at the first second I saw his works…It reminds me works of Os Gemeos, the two brazilian graffiti artists brothers. So i started to talk with him about this, and he knew works of those freaks...Who don't ??
Anyway, we talked a lot about Arts, our influences and differences between him; who considerate Art as an entire work and me; who just drawing for my pleasure or as a therapy...
He's involve into a lot of different projects with graffiti artists, designer and worked already for different galleries in Tokyo, Berlin, Paris and NYC where he's actually living.
I just saw he's gonna work with that great crew The Brooklyn Circus, check the blog.
The link to this great show he did in Tokyo last year as well 2006 at BBS Tokyo, the 10x10 Show.

Archipel reaches it's 30th net-release and is proud to present another heady outing from Social System (Pheek and Offthesky) who are in top form as always with "Besides I Rest Now".
The release begins with "Tried and True" which is anything but tried with its cascading blend of woven crystalline pleasure and effortlessly gliding nature. "Oh Slow Crickets" continues gliding into a warmer territory which fizzes with rhythmic liveliness and creamy wisps of wonderfully executed melody. "A as in Alan's Back" is a delightfully deep piece enveloped in swirling and warbling springtime clouds of ambrosia sound.

Control, a film by Anton Corbijn

Control is a biopic film about the late Ian Curtis (1956-1980), lead singer of the legendary post-punk rock band Joy Division. The screenplay is based on the book Touching From a Distance, by Curtis' wife, Deborah, who is also a co-producer of the film.

The film details the life of the troubled young musician, who forged a new kind of music out of the punk rock scene of 1970s Britain, and the band Joy Division, which he headed from 1977 to 1980. It also deals with his rocky marriage and extramarital affair, as well as his increasingly frequent seizures, which were thought to contribute to the circumstances that led to his suicide on the eve of Joy Division's first U.S. tour.

The title is a reference to one of Joy Division's more memorable songs, "She's Lost Control". The song title is believed to be a reference to an epileptic girl Curtis befriended while working at a rehabilitation center in Manchester. The girl died during a seizure and thus inspired the title.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, on 17 May 2007, where it was received well by the critics. Although shown outside the Palme d'Or competition, Control was the big winner of the Director's Fortnight winning the CICAE Art & Essai prize for best film, the "Regards Jeunes" Prize award for best first or second directed feature film and the Europa Cinemas Label prize for best European film in the sidebar.

Thinner presents Holger Flinsch - Discovery EP

Thinner....Thinner...Thinner....Make my day again & again & again & again....
Can't live without it anymore !!!!

I was listenning this great mix by [in]anace again called Thinner Process on Subsource , Submix section. Looking for Neurotron EP on Thinner (too bad....it's not available anymore) and diggin, diggin, diggin again some powerfull and dark atmosphere...Just to remind me how much i miss that f%µ!ùù Berghain in East Berlin. Anyway, was diggin' til i found this name : Holger Flinsch...
As i can understood, he's the creator/owner of Basalt records a german (no way?) netlabel. 4 releases on this netlabel with a live of Holger Flinsch in Berlin, available for download. (for free...do i have to say it everytime, around64Mo, .rar file)). Holger's sounds are pretty different from what i presented in the 2 lasts posts, not that much atmospheric but more powerfull...More dancefloor in a way....After listen it, my fav' track is without any doubt Fandango. Minimal, lots of clickety sounds everywhere on a deep fat bass...Exqueeeeeeeeezit' Holger..Can't wait to listen that live (on the DL right now).

Also, i think i'm falling in love for Benfay a.k.a Benjamin Fay, a guy from Bern in Switzerland. Also Thinner's artist...He's one of the most talented Thinner artist and he signed the last release on Thinner [Thn096] : Born on a Houseboat
As it describe on the homepage it's all about "Delicious Minimal House Grooves", i have to say that i love minimal but for a dancefloor it's quite boring sometimes...if it's not 9.am and your head isn't light as a pill...Anyway, Powerfull minimal beats...My fav' work of Benfay is one of the first release on Thinner [thn007], his EP called Carbon, released in 2001...I heard this tracks into Thinner Process as well....

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Get it There
First track called Carbon is pretty common but i love the construction as all Benfay's production : Deep sounds at the beginning and starting to grow up on & on & on...I love that shit..
As you can read on Thinner website, the Carbon EP don't have any comments by the press...but as i can see on the last one, n°96 you have comments from Spain & Uk's...
The 2nd track called Bonnie Mandarin is just amazing. At the beginning, you'll start to say :"Geeezzzz, another minimal sleepy stuffs...But at 3'30, you know you're onto it and it's gonna be hard to be safe....
Unlimited Ovation on the Dancefloor....if you put the last track called Calamine Click...it's techno like it was at the latest 90's...Between Underworld, Laurent Garnier shakin by Jeff Mills...Hard piano notes, according to the beat, reverbs, gloomy sounds behind this...You think it's finish but it's just the very beginning...Don't wanna sleep !!!!!!

Philipp Weigl Monsters LP

Today i'm gonna start my blog with a great great LP composed by Philipp Weigl, a genius composer from Munich, Germany. I just wanna say that this guy is fuckin talented and his works reminds me sounds of Richard Davis when i listenned this LP for the 1st time.

Check it out on Netlabel Thinner/Autoplate website.

"Their most recent release is Monsters, the marvellous eight-track album by Philipp Weigl. A graduate of classical piano from Munich's University of Music and Performing Arts, Weigl lays his whispered, English-language vocals over lush, dreamlike compositions that drip with yearning melancholy. The results sound something like William Orbit and the Beloved snuggling under the duvet on a particularly dreary winter's morning."
Chris Salmon (The Guardian) Homepage

Philipp Weigl Monsters LP
- THINNER RELEASE 090 -
(8 tracks - 43min 32sec - 60.82 MB)

Fitting naturally into the autumn mood and reflecting the satisfying warmth of a relaxing evening at home, the Munich-based electronic music artist Philipp Weigl brings his first album to Thinner following the release of “Silently Moving” on Legego one year ago. “Monsters” is influenced mostly by the music of Björk, Portishead, and Radiohead along with the lyrics of Nick Cave and, in a minimal way, by his studies of classical piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.

“Monsters” is about music and lyrics. They emerge independent of and unconnected with one another only to meet for a conjoined dance. The music and lyrics are deferential of one another with the music coming out of a creative void and the lyrics being formed by a blend of experiences, dreams, fantasies, and memories. Spoken in a low, whispered voice, the lyrics do not rise above the music, but drift just below the surface making their presence known without being intrusive. At the same time, the music intensifies the predominantly subtle character of the lyrics in order to reveal the fine humor, irony, and emotion hiding within them but without affecting them too hard. The resulting sounds are at once melancholic and dark but also harmonious and warm.

Listening to the songs on the album creates a feeling much like one gets during sleep as our dreams reappraise the day’s experiences. Immediately awakened from a dream every part of it can be recalled and each nuance can be experienced and seen with the inner eye as a phantasmagoric slideshow of continuous images. Slightly disoriented, we ask ourselves - was this real or was it a dream? As the day progress and our memories degrade with the passage of time, details of the dream fade away and only vague fragments remain like a collection of disjointed snapshots.

The eight songs on “Monsters” describe pictures of daily life from the viewpoint of a dream with emotions ranging from slightly unsettling to wistful. For example, listening to “Unrelated” we hear, “I found a letter in my bag that was written in a language that I don’t understand.“ Philipp translates this into the disconcerting feeling that there seem to be events in life that are completely incomprehensible to the individual person while at the same time appearing to be understood by everyone else. On the other hand, the mood turns melancholic and nostalgic on “Lifted” as we hear the dreamy juxtapositions of unconnected sentences: “I’m lying on my back and I’m watching fireworks.” - “I’d like to dance like the others do.” - I can hear the distant laughing fleeting away.”

Listening to this album is just like waking up from a dream. We ask ourselves the question whether the lyrics are really so full of secrets and mystery or is this just an illusion, and are they merely dealing with the small problems and occurrences of everyday life?
